Links with Your Coffee – 6/17

With another week gone by, we couldn’t help but pass on these links to freshen up your coffee. Just in case you missed these stories this last week, here’s some of our favorite highlights and discoveries:
- Thanks to our friends we can confirm what we already had suspicions of – St. Louis has the best tasting water. But we wondered, why? Then we remembered our city’s water towers, which reminded us of a raffle to watch July 4th fireworks up top in a water tower. That raffle is drawn next weekend, so pick up your tickets this week.
- Did you know Subterranean Books has a blog? Neither did we. Then again, we didn’t know we were supposed to miss The Potato until last week either. Must’ve been a bad week to be in print.
- We all learned a lot about the Gateway Mall last week, but here’s a helpful tool to use when thinking about how we can make downtown even better. We’re tired of people beating down the city, we think it’s a fine place to live.
- Do you wax nostalgic for the days of plain-text, single-column web pages? Or are you just a fan of alt-country music? If either of these apply, you might enjoy reading this RFT review of Sun Volt’s “Trace” from 1995 now unearthed. From what we hear, interviewing Uncle Tupelo was basically the St. Louis equivalent of Nirvana opening for your punk band in the early 90s (at least in the Pacific Northwest).
- We’ve been trying out this last.fm group thingie for about a week now, and it’s starting to get pretty interesting. Already the group radio station is injected with local flavor – I heard The Bottle Rockets and Wilco back to back. We might add that to the site, but first won’t you join us friends?
- Because we’re big fans of the multimedia section of STLtoday.com, we couldn’t help but pass along their cool feature on St. Louis blues music. Now if they would just update Reflections our lives would be complete.
- We’d be remiss not to point towards our friends @ 52nd city, who always seem to be up on the low in the lou. In their 500th post (phew) we joined the discussion about those kids who are going to replace us professionals (lol). I am losing my edge - the kids are coming up from behind.
- We’re not entirely sure LoFiSTL.com site gets the local appreciation it deserves as od late. Or maybe we just wanted to say thanks for providing us a view of those shows we missed but really wanted to see (even if we didn’t know yet).
Phew! How’s that for some (hot)link action? As you can see we’ve been doing our homework this week, and we’ll see you in another weeks time for a cup of coffee and a conversation littered with (hyperlinked) references.
